History

The German-Polish choral academy in terra pax was called into existence after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain in 1991 by musicians such as Professor Ludwig Güttler, Dresden, Professor Jan Szyrocki, Szczecin, Wolfgang Unger, Leipzig, Volker Schmidt-Gertenbach, Göttingen and Werner Pfaff, Karlsruhe. Patronage was taken over by the Presidents of Poland and Germany.

In summer 1998 we were able to welcome singers from France to in terra pax for the first time.

In 2003 Professor Jan Szyrocki, founder and artistic director of the academy, passed away. His responsibilities were assumed by Dr. Richard Zielinski (USA) and Professor Benedykt Błonski (Poland). Since 2011 Jean-Baptiste Bertrand (France) was the artistic director. Today, our artistic director is Szymon Wyrzykowski (Poland).

in terra pax has a special relationship with the Polish composer Marek Jasinski, who wrote a dedicated piece for the academy every year until his death in 2010.

Over the course of time many internationally renowned conductors have worked with in terra pax. You can also find a program archive containing the pieces in terra pax performed in every year and a number of articles written about the academy, either by the press or by participants.
